Encourage One Another Daily!

Well it's been over a week since my last blog and a lot has happened! I'm really enjoying my internship. It's so humbling to see those kids come in there with serious physical, mental, and emotional problems, but still have a smile on their face and find ways to enjoy life!

This past weekend was the Focus Winter Camp and it was AMAZING!!! I made a couple new friendships and got to know a few people better than I did before. One thing I really took away from the weekend was from the girls' Q&A time with Eddie, Iasked him what he meant by "Watch your mouth"? He said that the only two things we are commanded to do daily are "pick up your cross" and "encourage one another". As Christians I think people look to us for encouragement (probably bcuz that's how it should be :)). It doesn't take much to get discouraged in this world... just turn on the news or pick up the newspaper. When I go to work I always here people complaining about our boss or this or that and I know that I'm just as guilty as the rest, but that really challenged me to start thinking and being positive. And it's kinda funny that many of us think there are so many other commands to do everyday (have a quiet time, pray, serve, etc.), but really those are the only two things we are commanded to do Everyday. So shouldn't we try our hardest to pick up our cross and encourage one another everyday?!?!

When you really think about it, being salt and light isn't really that hard. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Wow Mace, you're so right. I've tried really hard the past couple days to be more encouraging with my words. It's easy for me to be critical (I think you know this more than most lol), and I'm trying to be more uplifting in what I say to and about people. We should keep each other accountable for this!

Oh I just thought of this, it's from my interpersonal communications text:

People act as uppers when they communicate positively about us and reflect positive appraisals of our self-worth. They notice our strengths, see our progress, and accept our weaknesses and problems without discounting us. When we’re around uppers, we feel more upbeat and positive about ourselves. Uppers aren’t necessarily unconditionally positive in their communication. A true friend can be an upper by recognizing our weaknesses and helping us work on them. Instead of putting us down, an upper believes in us and helps us believe in ourselves and our capacity to change.

I would love to be this!

I know when I encourage people it makes me be in more of a positive mood all around and I know when people encourage me it's contagious. Those are great thoughts and a good reminder. Thanks for sharing them!
